Retirement and IRA calculators

The interactive tools model your assumptions after JavaScript loads. Returns are hypothetical and do not predict performance. Growth, taxes and distribution obligations depend on your circumstances.

Growth example and assumptions

Start with $1,000, deposit $100 at the end of each month for one year, and assume 0% return with no fees, taxes or inflation. The ending balance is $2,200: the initial $1,000 plus twelve $100 deposits. At a nonzero assumed rate, each deposit has a different time to compound.

The growth model compounds the annual nominal rate monthly. Optional inflation discounts the complete future balance; deposits remain fixed in nominal dollars. The Traditional/Roth comparison uses the same pre-tax budget and assumes a full Traditional deduction, fixed tax rates and qualified Roth withdrawals. Results do not establish eligibility or actual tax liability.

RMD scope

The RMD illustration uses the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table for account owners. It does not calculate inherited-account requirements or the joint-life table for a sole-beneficiary spouse more than ten years younger. Use the applicable IRS table for your case. Balance inputs should represent the relevant prior December 31 balance. The projection assumes a withdrawal at the beginning of each distribution year followed by the selected annual growth rate. For a future first RMD, it grows the initial balance for the intervening years.
